The Drawing Process:

Picture
GESTURE:
Your gestures should be very quick.
They help understand Form and begin planning your composition.

CONTOUR:
A contour drawing is just the outlines.
This helps us plan out the composition, specifically positive and negative space. Contours also prepare us for our sketches.

CONTOUR DRAWING WITH CROSS CONTOUR LINES:
You may add (although not required) Cross contour lines. This would help show form.

SKETCH:
A
sketch adds 3-5 values (using any of the 5 techniques). Notice the Highlights, Midtones, Shadows, and even a little Cast Shadow.
Our Sketches now show Form, and Value, as well as a developed composition.

FINAL DRAWING:

A final drawing has 7 Values. It shows Texture. It looks complete, and realistic.
